I was running a Zoom app meeting from my Dell Inspiron 15 series laptop last night. There is an annoying green dialog box "Zoom is using webcam" at the top of the screen. I clicked on it and then meant to click "Hide Notification" but by mistake hit "Block Application access to webcam". My screen went black instead of showing the camera view. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client. In the top-right corner, click your profile picture. If you don’t have a profile picture, click your initials. Click Settings. Select the Video tab and confirm that the video preview is working. Connect the external camera to your computer. Log into your Zoom meeting, and click the Screen Share button. Click the Advanced tab. Choose Content from 2nd Camera. How do I get Zoom to recognize my external camera? Check that Zoom has permissions for the camera. Open the device Settings. Tap Applications or Apps. Tap Zoom. Tap Permissions.

If unplugging and re-plugging does not work, unplug the device again. Restart the computer with the device unplugged. The Meeting Owl Pro is excellent for those that hold calls with more than one person in the room. You can also use it to capture a photo or video in the app with many advanced features as well. The webcam works with the built-in camera app and in Google Meet, but in Zoom, I see a black screen instead of video. The webcam might be associated with another software program or not responding.

Often, simply restarting the computer can correct the problem. Restart the computer, and then open your webcam software as soon as Windows finishes loading. If restarting the computer does not correct this problem, continue troubleshooting. Scroll down and switch the Camera Privacy Mode toggle to Off. Note: If the Camera Privacy Mode keeps changing to On, check if your Lenovo laptop has a physical switch to enable or disable your camera.

Make sure it is switched on. To avoid choppy video, get one that can deliver at least 20 frames per second under this resolution.

While you are not required to have a webcam to join a Zoom Meeting or Webinar , you will not be able to transmit a video of yourself. You will continue to be able to listen and speak during the meeting, share your screen, and view the webcam video of other participants.

Most webcams have a USB cable connected to them. USB ports are on the back of the computer or the sides of a laptop. Newer operating systems, like Windows 8 and Windows 10, should recognize the webcam as connected. Several camera manufacturers, such as Panasonic, Canon, and Sony, have developed software that allows you to use their DSLR cameras for live video chatting and streaming on your computer. For this method, all you need is the USB cable that came with your camera and the software.

Try connecting the camera to a different USB terminal. If there are multiple USB terminals on your computer, connecting the cable to a different USB terminal may allow the camera to be recognized by the computer. For wireless webcams, check your Bluetooth settings and make sure the device's battery is charged. Make sure your camera is selected in Zoom. During a meeting, select the up arrow next to the camera icon and make sure the desired webcam is chosen.

If the camera icon has a line through it in your Zoom window, select the icon to enable your camera. Close other programs that can access your camera.

Other software could be competing with Zoom for your webcam. Check your device settings. Go to the camera settings on your device to make sure it's not disabled. Check your app permissions. Make sure Zoom has permission to use your camera by going to your device's app settings. Update your device's drivers. Windows users should go into the Device Manager and check to make sure the camera's drivers are up-to-date.

Update your Mac. If you're on a Mac running macOS Restart your device. A reboot fixes most computer problems because it closes any ongoing processes that could be interfering with software or hardware , such as your camera. Change Zoom's Advanced Video Settings. Zoom provides advanced tools designed to enhance video playback, but they sometimes have the opposite result.

If your video continues to be distorted, open Zoom while not in a meeting and select the Settings gear , then choose the Video tab and select Advanced to adjust these options. Make sure the correct camera is chosen and that the box beside Turn off my video when joining meeting isn't checked. In reply to paolahiponia's post on August 12, I would suggest you check your function keys where the bar across the camera is seen as noted in your picture. On my Lenovo, it is F8. It is probably activated, so depress and see if this works. Patricia Badia-Johnson. In reply to BarbaraGomez1's post on August 24, How do i connect my computer installed camera to Zoom?
